What is Password Generator?

A password generator creates strong, unpredictable passwords that are far harder to crack than anything a person would invent. This tool builds passwords from a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and symbols, using your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator so every result is genuinely random.

You control the length and character types, and can exclude ambiguous characters like the letter O and the number 0 to make passwords easier to read and type.

How to Use the Password Generator

  1. Set your desired password length with the slider.
  2. Choose which character types to include.
  3. Optionally exclude ambiguous look-alike characters.
  4. Click Generate, then Copy the password into your account or manager.

Benefits & Use Cases

Strong, unique passwords are the single most effective defence against account breaches. Using a generated password for each service means that even if one site is compromised, your other accounts stay safe.

Crucially, this generator runs completely offline in your browser. Your passwords are never sent over the internet or stored on a server, so no one else ever sees them.

The Password Generator is completely free, needs no sign-up or installation, and runs entirely in your browser — nothing you enter is uploaded to a server, so your data stays private. It works on desktop, tablet and mobile, in light or dark mode.

Tips & Best Practices

Longer beats complex: a 16-character password with mixed character types is far harder to crack than a short one crammed with symbols. Generate a different password for every account so a breach on one site can never unlock the others, and store them in a password manager rather than trying to memorise them.

Everything is generated locally with your browser's secure random source, so nothing is ever transmitted. For checksums use the Hash Generator, and for unique identifiers rather than secrets use the UUID Generator.

FAQ about Password Generator

Are the passwords truly random?

Yes. The generator uses the Web Crypto API's cryptographically secure random number generator, which is suitable for security-sensitive use.

Is my generated password sent anywhere?

No. Everything happens locally in your browser. The password is never transmitted or stored on any server.

How long should my password be?

Longer is stronger. For important accounts, aim for at least 16 characters with a mix of letters, numbers and symbols.

Why exclude ambiguous characters?

Characters like l, 1, O and 0 can be hard to tell apart. Excluding them reduces errors when you have to type a password by hand.
